Review Text

Dru Anderson may be 16, but she doesn't live an ordinary teenage life. Her mom died when she was five, and she was raised by her wise woman Gran in the mountains - when she wasn't hanging around with her warrior dad. Dru was taught the truth about the Real World, which is far different from the one most people see. She knew all about the things that go bump in the night - the wulfen, the nosferat, the poltergeists. So she was prepared when her dad was gruesomely murdered and turned into a zombie, and she didn't hesitate to pull the trigger. But now she's on her own, except for her Goth friend Graves, who only wants to grow up to be a physics teacher. Now they are the ones being hunted, because someone doesn't want Dru to grow up to be anything...much less a real threat. The book grabs readers by the throat, sets hearts beating loudly and never lets go. The first in a series, it will be all too hard to wait for the next. As if being dragged from town to town and high school to high school weren't bad enough, sixteen-year-old Dru has to deal with ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and zombies. When her father comes home from his latest hunt, things will never be the same for Dru. With her father no longer able to help her, she is left to fend for herself. And someone is out to get her. With the help of her new friend, Graves, she manages to stay alive long enough for the mysterious Cristophe to find her. But is he there to help or does he have other, darker motives? STRANGE ANGELS is a fast-paced and exciting paranormal jaunt into Dru's life. Ms. St. Crow has developed wonderful characters and a plot that keeps the reader dodging wulfen and suckers right along with Dru and the others. I look forward to the next STRANGE ANGELS novel.show more

Strange Angels features a sixteen year old, Dru Anderson who has been traveling around for years with her father learning about and hunting supernatural "baddies", such as wulfen (werewolves) suckers, (vampires) and zombies. Dru is a pretty tough teenager who has learned from her father how to fight, and from her Gran how to deal with "hinky". She has "the touch", something that is passed along the family. When the book opens she has lost her mother at an early age, and her Gran more recently. The book starts off with a bang. She dreams of an owl in her room, this owl she refers to as Gran's owl. It usually appears to her when something bad is about to happen. She never gets a chance to tell her father about seeing the owl, and in fact that morning is the last time she sees her father alive. There is a very tense 24 hours of her waiting for her father. During this 24 hours, she goes to school and comes home to an empty house. Her father ends up coming home as a zombie and she ends up having to deal with that. Dru ends up having to rely on a boy from school,(Graves) who helps her out when she needs it the most. They end up attacked by wulfen. Her new friend ends up bitten, and Dru has to decide whether to automatically shoot him or take a chance on his not turning. She starts to question some of the things whe was taught. The entire book is full of action and terror. Dru and her friend Graves have to do some quick growing up, making decisions that no normal teenager has to deal with. The suspense was pretty good. I started reading this book on Friday night, and didn't want to put it down, even when my eyes were closing on their own. When I finished the book, I already was wondering what was going to happen next in Dru's life. There is a sequel planned, this is the first in a new series. I'm am looking forward to the continuing story of Dru. Lili St.Crow has an awesome way with words. As you're reading you can almost smell what Dru is smelling, feel the intense cold, and picture in your mind what is going on around her. You can get lost in her books. Not one time was I bored - sometimes, no matter how much you like an author's style, there is usually slow bits, but I didn't get that with this book. Dru's character was strong, even though she was terrified of what was happening to her. Glimpses were given of her earlier life without info-dump moments, and even though Dru has obviously not had the most wonderful childhood, there is a strong sense of her family's love - which is refreshing. A lot of authors tend to bog down their characters with horrible childhoods, and bitter family members. There was a tough childhood there, but no bitterness and angst. Great book, great plot, lots of scary moments and I'm looking forward to any sequels to Strange Angelsshow more

Dru grew up half the time with her grandmother, teaching her spiritual powers and half the time on the road hunting dark things with her dad. Fans of the Supernatural TV show will be pleased with this novel 'cause it brings you in the same dark and dangerous atmosphere. Only Dru came from being the predator and turns out to be the prey when her dad never come back home alive after a hunting day. Dru's mom is long dead, her grandmother passed out to and now her father's dead: She is on her own. Dru has some knowledge of the Real World and she has firearms skills but she's definitely not ready for what's coming next. Along the way Dru meets a goth guy named Graves, he helps her when she hits the bottom and decide to tag along for the long road even thought Dru doesn't want him to: she doesn't want to involve him in her world. Graves becomes the best ally she can get in those unfortunate circumstances. The two of them fight there way to survive everything that's coming to them and meet Christophe, a mysterious guy with fangs. We don't really know if he is friend or foe but he makes things very interesting, and I found myself enjoying this character very much. I wished he came in the story earlier. Story is good, characters are believable, the action is great but the story develops a bit slowly for my taste, but the last 30% of the book is awesome. I'll sure pick up the following book "Betrayals", I want to see what's gonna happen next between Dru and the mysterious Christophe.show more
