Description

Our curriculum takes students from novice to advanced levels of Spanish. Yetters Learn Spanish is our YouTube channel. There you will find playlists of webcasts specifically selected and organized to go along with each unit of the book. Using the webcasts along with the book allows students to read it, see it, hear it, and practice it. The Blended Learning Unit brings a variety of innovative technology and online resources into the classroom. We believe the textbook curriculum along with the webcasts from our YouTube channel is the cornerstone of the learning program. We have included ideas on hundreds of student-led activities. We have included links to numerous telenovela learning-series dramas, many of which include practice exercises. There are links to the Spanish Proficiency Exercises by University of Texas at Austin website and Audira.com website. Both of these websites have organized libraries of audio clips with text of the dialog. Students can read along while they hear the dialog; then practice and improve their own speech by recording themselves repeating the dialog. There is a link to the conjuguemos.com website which has a variety of excellent verb conjugation exercises. There are many more resources included in the Blended Learning Unit which may be used regularly or occasionally. For example, the aprenderemos.com website has a large vocabulary section organized by topic themes. Using these resources creates a multifaceted instructional approach which may quickly and easily be customized. Our recommended strategy is for students to learn keystone grammar knowledge and skills in a sequential manner while at the same time they are continuously using a variety of other instructional approaches and materials. Some educators believe grammar points should be first introduced holistically in an oral or written narrative, and then studied. In whatever methodology (or combination of methodologies) chosen, grammar instruction is an integral part of total language instruction and having the right resources to teach grammar is critical to a successful outcome. The textbook curriculum is sequential and progressive. Each chapter builds on the previous one, creating a smooth flow from basic to advanced subject matter. Each step in the sequence expands and strengthens foundational academic base. A unique feature of our book is that the concepts are explained in English and the practice exercises are bilingual so that the students will have a clear understanding of the skills and concept being taught. Novice students need only study unit one (phonetics) in its entirety, plus the first chapter of units two through sixteen. The first chapter of each unit contains the fundamental information novice students need to know on that subject before going to the first chapter of the next unit. Intermediate students will build on the basics by reviewing unit one (phonetics) and studying units two through sixteen in their entirety. Advanced- intermediate students should review units one through sixteen and study the first chapter of units seventeen through twenty-three. Advanced students need to review units one through sixteen and study units seventeen through twenty-three in their entirety. The index and organization of the book make a quick review of any subject readily available. Since the guide offers easy-to-understand explanations any weakness can quickly be corrected. The e-book version of the book blends perfectly with today's technology. It can be loaded on to tablets for students, or loaded on a computer so that it can be used effectively to teach from in the classroom. Because linguistic competency is learned in many ways, our curriculum can be tailored to a variety of instructional strategies. The effectiveness of this flexible framework is based on using the textbook as the centerpiece to teach the keystone academic foundational knowledge in Spanish that students need."show more
