The first volume is a photographic reproduction of the Latin text, preceded by an introduction in German by the late Ludwig von Bar, formerly professor at the University of Gottingen. The second volume consists of an English translation of Professor von Bar's German introduction to the first volume, and of an English translation of the Latin text, specially made for the series by John Pawley Bate. 5. Emer de Vattel's Le Droit des Gens ou Principes de la Loi Naturelle (1758). 3 vols. The edition of Vattel consists of three volumes, the first two being a photographic reproduction of the original French text of 1758, to which is prefixed in the first volume an introduction in French by Albert de Lapradelle, Professor of International Law in the University of Paris. The third volume consists of an English translation of Professor de Lapradelle's French introduction, made by George D. Gregory, Esq., and of an English translation of Vattel's French text, made especially for the series by Dr. Charles G. Fenwick, Associate Professor of Political Science, Bryn Mawr College. In addition to the works already published the following treatises are in preparation and will be issued with the imprint of the Institution: 1. Johannes de Legnano's De Bello, de Represaliis, et de Duello (1360). The first edition of Legnano's tractate was printed in 1477. It was, however, written more than a century before this date, and Professor Holland has discovered and obtained the original manuscript of 1360 from the University of Bologna.
