Write Student Response Foundation Book F Grd 6
Part I of each Student Book builds a foundation in the key grammar, usage, and mechanics (GUM) skills important for good writing. Concise two-page GUM lessons include instruction, practice, and writing. In teacher-directed steps, students review GUM examples used in context. Then they read a short writing model with more highlighted examples. Relevant GUM examples are called out alongside the model. Following instruction, students apply GUM skills they've learned by completing three activities that progress in difficulty. A writing prompt calls for application of the GUM skill learned in the lesson. Students refer back to the genre used in the model. A writing tip related to the GUM skill offers insight. The last instructional lesson in Part I teaches proofreading skills. The test-prep that follows checks comprehension and familiarizes students with the format of standards-based tests. Three reading selections are each followed by 18 selected-response questions. Students read a selection and complete one set of related questions, then move on to the next selection and its questions. Grade 6.
