The fish then were the same in nature, in character, in disposition, as the fish now; the birds, too, have the same habits, the same instinct, the same song: in nothing do they vary from their progenitors that lived six thousand years ago; and it is truly a profitable study thus to consider the works of God, and behold the harmony, the consistency that pervade the whole. Deeply as we have been interested in this portion of our work, our task is yet incomplete: the scale of creation is still in the ascendancy; and we are looking forward to a survey of the superior animals, until we arrive at man, the perfection of the Almighty's works.
