His said weekly payments to begin at or from the day of the birth of the said Joan and to continue until such time as she the said Joan shall competently be able to get her own living. Notice of the order to be given to the said John Wilkes by the Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Bredon. LVTI. 52. 191-6 June 1633. Order under the hands and seals of John Helem and John Charlett "whereas one Katharine Lew-Singlewoman was lately delivered of a bastard child at Defford within this County the father of which child is not certainly known but by the allegations of the said Katharine Lewis is one William Davis late of Great Comberton in the County aforesaid and since run out of the Countv. Now for that the said Katharine Lewis and her bastard child are in the Bridewell and there the woman is in great distress not being able by her labour to maintain herself and her child without some help from the Parish of Deffbrd where the child was born. Therefore we thought it fit in our discretion and very equal that the parishioners of Deffbrd do allow and pay to the said Katharine by the hands of the Overseers of the Poor or the Constable of Deffbrd for the time being towards the maintenance of the said child weekly from the time of the birth thereof 6d.
