Description

6,000 years ago, the land is one dark forest. Its people are hunters and gatherers. They know every tree and herb and they know how to survive in a world steeped in enchantment, menace and powerful magic. Until an ambitious and malignant force conjures up a demon; a demon so evil that it can be contained only in the body of a ferocious bear; a demon so hungry for death that it slays everything it sees; a demon with the potential to destroy the world. Only Torak and his wolf companion can save the world. 'Ian McKellen's reading of this enthralling story was totally riveting.' Angela Macphersonshow more

About Michelle Paver

Born in Malawi to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'Nyasaland Times', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She grew up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a City law firm. Eventually, though, having submerged herself in myth and folklore (not at work) and having been chased by a bear (again, not at work), she gave up the lawyer life to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. Successfully published as an adult author, the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness are her first - brilliant - books for children. Ian McKellen is internationally renowned for his distinguished work on stage and screen over four decades. He has won over 40 acting awards. He plays Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, Magneto in the X-Men films and Sir Leigh Teabing in The Da Vinci Code. Throughout his career, he has enjoyed working regularly for radio. His solo reading of The Odyssey for Penguin Books won a U.S. Audie in 1997. His full biography is on www.mckellen.comshow more
