Description

for solo voice and oboe Wings of the Grasses was composed as a companion piece to A Girl's Song to her Mother. Each piece recalls the open, high moorland of South Wales. In A Girl's Song to her Mother the voice is a younger person comforting an older one. In Wings of the Grasses the voice changes from that of a child to that of a reflective adult.show more

Review quote

"Anyone who liked Hilary Tann's 'A Girl's Song to Her Mother * for voice and flute also will like this song, as they are quite similar...The vocal line is a haunting melody that has much repetition, rather like some forgotten chant from nature." NATS Journal of Singing, December 2005 *show more
