Excerpt from Why I Am a Jew
I offer this small book humbly, as a sheaf garnered from the rich harvest of Judaism. A massive literature, a history of four thousand years, a courageous, articulate and unend ing struggle for moral determinism, cannot readily be com pressed, nor would I make bold to attempt to do this without the earnest hope that this book may be but an introduction to the study of the great tradition which it is our heritage to know, to understand and to share.
