About Philippa Gregory

Philippa Gregory was an established historian and writer when she discovered her interest in the Tudor period and wrote the internationally bestselling novel The Other Boleyn Girl. Now she is looking at the family that preceded the Tudors: the magnificent Plantaganets, a family of complex rivalries, loves, and hatreds. Her other great interest is the charity that she founded nearly twenty years ago: Gardens for The Gambia. She has raised funds and paid for 140 wells for the primary schools of this poor African country. A former student of Sussex university, and a PhD and Alumna of the Year 2009 of Edinburgh University, her love for history and commitment to historical accuracy are the hallmarks of her writing. She lives with her family on a small farm in Yorkshire. She welcomes visitors to her site www.PhilippaGregory.comshow more

Our customer reviews

Philippa Gregory is the queen of creating fascinating and engaging characters...and the White Queen is no exception. As usual, fiction meets non-fiction in an intricately woven world that is consistently unstable, unsafe and unsure. You will be drawn into this novel and its characters. Another Gregory masterpiece!show more

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory is a story about the royal houses of Lancaster and York. In particular it is a tale of Elizabeth Woodville an ordinary woman with extra-ordinary ambitions, who becomes queen of England in 1465. This is a historical novel that contains more fiction and less fact than previous books by the author, due to a scarcity of historical records. But don`t let that deter you from reading this gripping tale. You will find yourself falling in love with Elizabeth and her Yorkist family who must fight against bitter rivals in order to hold the kingdom together. Philippa Gregory tells the story with ease and grace - fit for a more
