4.5 stars
Did I enjoy this book: Yes.
One of the sweetest successes to come out of the self-publishing movement is the original story. Not the formula that publishers know will sell because it’s sold millions of times before, but a unique, totally out in left field, never been told before story. I love that.
The setting for When Camels Fly is in and around Israel. The characters are two middle-aged parents and their adult children. They aren’t superhuman, just super dedicated to one another. The plot involves solving a mystery that includes espionage, murder, theft, and good old-fashioned greed.
Yep, it’s weird. Or if you’re an artist, creative.
I knocked off a half star for one very subjective reason: the book jumps around a lot with the character’s point of view, time, and setting. Too many literary elements bouncing around makes my head spin.
Would I recommend it: Yes, I think this book will appeal to readers who love adventure, mystery, and even historical fiction. There’s a reader’s guide at the end of the book if you wanted to make this a book club selection as well.
