Review quote

Davies - like Rutter before him - doesn't set Herrick's poem in its entirety, and very effectively creates a refrain from the words 'We see him come...'. which in its final statement is beautifully and cleverly transformed to manufacture a masterfully peaceful ending. This mellifluously lilting carol sets Herrick's words respectfully but inventively, and the tenderness and quiet triumph of the poem is sensitively mirrored by Davies.
