Getting drunk homecoming night your senior year is never a good idea, but Jake Hayes never expected it all to end with a car crash and a t-post embedded in his throat. His biggest regret about it all? What he never said to Samantha Shay. He's been in love with her for years and never had the guts to tell her. Now it's too late. Because after that night, Jake will never be able to talk again. When Jake returns to his small island home, population 5,000, he'll have to learn how to deal with being mute. He also finds that his family isn't limited to his six brothers and sisters, that sometimes an entire island is watching out for you. And when he gets the chance to spend more time with Samantha, she'll help him learn that not being able to talk isn't the worst thing that could ever happen to you. Maybe, if she'll let him, Jake will finally tell her what he didn't say before, even if he can't actually say it.

What i didn't say is a book that everyone should read.It is a must read that will show you how hard life could be,but also that you have to fight to be happy. When i started reading this book i never imagined that i would find this. The whole story left me without words .Life is hard,we all know that, but in many cases things could be very difficult. This is the story of Jake and Samantha. Two teenagers who are having a hard time, but their love keep them together, and together they keep going on. After Jake gets drunk and is involved in a car accident ,he can't speak anymore. He is mute.He left the party to tell Samantha that he loves her. This was his secret, but the chances to tell her the big words "I love you" were ruined in the moment he found out that he would never speak again. But that doesn't change anything. Samantha has a secret that she never told anyone. Her life is not really easy like everyone thinks. She's afraid that if anyone finds out that her mother died, they will send her to her father, who left her when she was a child. I'm not a big fan of alcohol, and i will never be.Now that i'm thinking, what Keary wrote in this books could happen in real life very easy. One moment your okay, and in the next one your not.We never know.Yes,we do stupid things without thinking about consequences ,but stories like this one helps us realize that the story of Jake and Samantha could be our story. I really liked the way Keary described everything. How the relationship between Jake and Samantha started.Or what happend when Jake returned to school and everyone made that pledge to stop drinking for the rest of the year. That was a big surprise, but they know what could happen.Jake knows better. Jake's accident was the scene that made me want to read more. After i read those pages,i kept wondering if he will write on one page what he could never say again and give it to Sam.But what happend was much better.Jake and Samantha struggle to keep her secret, and to keep up with their relationship trying to comunicate in every way they can.He can't speak, but she doesn't mind. That's all that matters. This is not a simple story about two teenagers who love each other. This is the story of two people who struggle to keep their heads up and live knowing that their live will never be the same again. I am so glad that i could read this book.I really hope that it will be published in Romania too because this story is amazing! To be mute-Jake's case-doesn't mean your life is over. This is what Jake will show you if you read this. You can learn from him that life goes on and you can really be happy. To be orphan-Sam's case-doesn't mean you have to stop and wonder what will happen next or listen what people say about you.You gotta fight and learn how to survive. My first thought when i finished the book was:This is a lessons for everyone. So many bad things happen in real life ,but we never know what we did wrong until it's too late. What i liked the most about this book? The happy ending! The title What I Didn't Say,in my opinion,i think it means all the words Jake never told Samantha. To whisper her name or the words "I love you",or something comforting when she thought that everything is over.show more
