Vicki Speegle and Emily Hart met as editors at McGraw-Hill Education, where they worked on elementary level text books together.
Vicki Speegle is an ice cream addict, movie fanatic, and writer who lives in New Jersey, but loves to tell folks she lives in New York. Vicki grew up in Akron, Ohio where she helped care for her two rowdy younger brothers, an experience that provided fodder for a number of tall tales. Her infatuation with storytelling began at the age of 5 when she sent a love letter to Donny Osmond, and since then she's worked an odd mix of jobs to support her writing and filmmaking, including 4 years in the U.S. Navy tracking submarines, assistant to a very eccentric artist, and a brief bout as the world's worst waitress. Vicki studied music at Akron University before making the move to New York University, where she earned her BFA in Film & Television. During her studies at NYU she interned as assistant to the editor for Ken Burns' production of THE WEST. Vicki is an award-winning writer whose feature script LOVED ONES was in development at Amazon Studios and came oh so close to winning Best Screenplay of the Year there. Her work has also placed in the finals of the Sundance Screenplay Lab, Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope.com, Bluecat, and Slamdance. Vicki's credits include a teen comedy for Applause Films and radio scripts for jazz great Wynton Marsalis. When she can't make enough as a writer to buy ice cream, she works as a web producer. And she is STILL waiting for Donny's response.
With a nod to detail and irony, Emily Hart's illustrations are inspired by nature. Her art breathes freshness into the familiar, creating something whimsically new. Emily is a self-taught watercolor artist living in Brooklyn, New York.show more
