A totalitarian empire casts its shadow across the globe: this is the age of the World Union. The people are being herded into the City's towering apartment blocks, their everyday lives programmed and monitored from afar. Outside the City limits, the land is carpeted in genetically modified monocultures, churning out stodgy fare for the masses. Scattered pockets of resistance remain, but hope is steadily turning to despair. One man does things his own way, living off the grid in a remote corner of Ireland. His wife is trampled to death in a protest rally and he is left to care for his son alone. Unexpectedly, he finds romance with the girl next door, and together they escape for a new life in Iceland, a tiny island nation that stands alone in Europe as the last remaining holdout against the World Union. He remains troubled however by vivid dreams, foggy memory, and bizarre flashbacks. He decides to return to his homeland in Ireland, in an attempt to make sense of it all. He is shocked by what he finds there, realising that things are not always what they appear to be. Wake Up! tears at the borders that separate dreams, myths and legends from facts and reality, urging us to set aside our pre-conceived notions, and question instead our very existence.show more
