Wagner to Big Bud : 4WD Tractor Pioneers
Big tractor enthusiast Peter D Simpson has worked with the American magazine "Toy Farmer" to make this thoughtful and absorbing DVD about some of the 4WD pioneers in the United States. The programme uses archive footage, new film and detailed interviews to tell the story of four enterprises. Peter starts with the Wagner, the articulated 4WD tractor produced in 1954. This is the innovation which, for the first time, challenged the supremacy of tracked machines in the rolling NW wheat belts. Peter then looks at the impact of John Deere's non-competing contract and the WA14 and WA17. He deals with the Wagner-based products of the Rite company, including the 1985 Rite 750 Earthquake, then the world's largest production tractor. Finally, there is a detailed section on the Big Bud, covering Series 1-4, and including a close look at its engineering. Exciting film and clear, accurate interviews make this an outstanding programme.
