In 1860, a dona tion of was made by Gen. Philip st. George cocke, for the endowment of the chair of Agriculture, and in the same year, a donation wasmade of by Dr, william newton mercer, of Louisiana, to endow the chair of Animal and Vegetable Physiology, applied to Agri culture. A donation was made at the same time by Mrs. E. L. Claytor, of Virginia, of to erect a Hall of Natural History.
