Imaginative use of textures and judicious chromatic additions to the harmonies bring new life to this favourite Christmas spiritual. The coda makes deft interplay with motivic fragments, producing a kaleidoscopic welter of colour and rhythm that transports the listener to warmer climes, where the expression of sheer joy is uninhibited and infectious. For capable choirs only, this could well be a show-stopper. * The Organ, November 07 *
