The title emphasizes the fact that, despite the geographical distance, the work of the Italian Armed Forces has always been concretely close, both in the maintenance of security, and in the contribute to reconstruction. A different descriptive mode, a new communication to strengthen and bring the general public closer to the concrete contribution the Country has given to Afghanistan in the context of the international missions. The road as a metaphor of life, even with all its troubles: potholes, bomb explosions, attacks that need an answer to defend and protect that path, that seat belt which allows the reconstruction. The comments quoted are those of the population and of the soldiers directly involved in the events. An imaginary road to be the visual and historical common thread of a story begun in 2003, whose chapters have witnessed hard times as well as positive results, an unpaved path made of dust, sand and stones but also of wonderful views that recall Alexander the Great and its passage into Afghanistan in 330 BC. Great publication about the experience of the Italian contingent in Afghanistan, promoted and supported by the IOC (top Interagency Operating Command) and the heads of Defence, will be the subject of extensive media interest. The proceeds will go to charity. The book will be presented in Florence in the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio, in the presence of military and political city and national authorities. Events in Rome and Milan will follow.
