Smith, Montpelier, Messenger, was born in Montpelier, April 6, 1865. He is a student. Religious preference, Congregationalist. ADJUTANT AND INSPECTOR GENERAL. Gen. James S. Peck, of Montpelier, republican, was born in that town, December, 1839, and graduated at the University of Vermont in 1860. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1866. He was lieutenant and adjutant of the 13th, adjutant and major of the 17th regiment Vt. Vols. He was elected to the office of adjutant and inspector general in 1872. Religious preference, Episcopalian. QUARTERMASTER GENERAL. Gen. Levi G. Kingsley, of Rutland, republican, was born in Shrewsbury, May 21, 1832, and is an alumnus of Norwich University, class of 1853. He removed to Rutland in 1857, and has since been engaged in mercantile business in that town. He was second lieutenant in the 1st, and captain and major in the 12th reg't Vt. Vols.; was made colonel of the Vermont state militia in 1864, and elected quartermaster general in 1874. Religious preference, Episcopalian. STATE LIBRARIAN. Hon. Hiram A. Huse, of Montpelier, republican, was born in Randolph, Jan. 17, 1843. He is a lawyer, and located in town in 1872. Was educated at Dartmouth College, graduating in the class of 1865.
