All the poems in this collection were written by Ian Yearsley in 2006, an incredibly productive and creative year for him. This period of creativity was ushered in by the publication of his first poetry collection, Tears of Poignancy, a retrospective collection covering 20 years of his poetic work and featuring 30 of his poems on a range of subjects. 2006 also saw the completion and publication of his long, epic poem The Battle of Ashingdon (1016), which is written in the style of traditional Anglo-Saxon narrative battle storytelling poetry. This current collection, Unspoken Understanding, also features 30 poems and is in many ways a more mature and much more diverse collection, with poems written in many different forms and covering a wide range of topics. Ian's traditional subjects of Love, Life and Essex provide the mainstay of the work, but there are also poems about airships, Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI, from which Ian suffers) and the environment, arguably the most important topic of the era. Ian's poems have also been featured in poetry anthologies and Essex libraries have hosted two exhibitions of his work.
