Development work on the properties was immediately inaugurated on a large scale and has since been continued with energy and vigor. One hundred men are constantly employed at the mines, and, as a result, nearly 4,000 feet of underground workings have been opened up, shafts have been sunk at different points, cross-cuts and up-raises have been made, until to-day there is blocked out and ready for the smelter exceeding 100,000 tons of ore, of a total value, in round figures, of $3,000,000 The ore bodies run from 40 to 100 feet in width and in thickness from 5 t 18 feet. At the rate development work is now being pushed it is estimated that at least 150,000 tons of ore, to the value of $4,500,000, will be blocked out and ready for the smelter within six months. Last December the company engaged Mr. Gustave M. Gouyard, the famous mining engineer of Denver, Colorado, to visit the mines and makean exhaustive report on the property to the Board of Directors. Mr. Gouyardspent several weeks on the property, and in submitting his report to the Directors on January 23,1905, signified his willingness to become permanent consulting engineer in the development of the mine. I It may be remarked in passing that Mr. Gouyard is consulting engineer for the group of Boston capitalists controlling the world famous Calumet and I-Iecla mines, and that he is considered one of the very highest authorities on mine values in the country. Klepetko, of Washoe Fame, to Build Smelter Mr. Gouyard recommended to the Board of Directors that a. smelter of sufficient capacity to handle 1,000 tons of ore per day be at once constructed, and acting..
