It is a catalog of an important exhibition staged from February 3rd to June 6th 2015 at the States Archives of Florence, the city which in 1865 replaced Turin as a capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Many subjects are covered, from the transfer of the institutions of the Kingdom to the resettlement of Savoy court, to the activity of Opificio delle Pietre Dure. The book focuses on the great urban plans of architect Giuseppe Poggi, whose projects deeply changed the shape of the city and its surroundings. The contributions, born from extensive research on archival papers, are accompanied by an extensive iconography and also focus on specific issues such as the problem of water regulation, the use of public parks, the design of the railway network.
