Description

Excerpt from The Twentieth Annual Report of the Finances of the Town of Dorchester: For the Year Ending Jan. 31, 1858 The number of paupers in the alms-house on the first day of February, 1857, was seventeen. During the year two have been admitted, one has been discharged, and one has died, leaving seventeen on the first day of February, 1858. Two hundred and fifteen travelling and transient persons, have been furnished with assistance, by providing them with food and lodging, as occasion required. The Superintendent and Matron of the alms-house, are the same as last year, and fully sustain their reputation for keeping a comfortable and orderly house.
