About This Story What began as a simple thought has grown out of a simple question. "Can one person really make a difference?" This fictional political story is the final installment of a Trilogy in an attempt to answer that question. The first installment, "Wright One In," is the beginning of this answer and revolves around a retired business man, John Sckulley, who did not care for the politics of today and grumbled about the lack of good candidates he could vote for each election. At the urging of his wife, Sckulley learned about and set up a blog which he then used to vent his frustration over what he felt. Little did he know he would begin something that would take on a life of its own. This story laid the foundation for the second installment. The second installment in this trilogy is "The Ballot." This story traces the journey of a virtually unknown businessman from a highly regarded and respected family as he decides to enter politics and run for national office. With the support of his father, he becomes the leader of a new third party and enters the race as a write-in candidate. Neither the Democrats nor Republicans took him and this new party seriously as they have been down this road before. But through some very deft maneuvering and political court challenges, the barriers begin to fall as the third party gains more and more of a foothold in the upcoming elections. What follows is a virtual three-way tie for the Presidency putting the final selection of the winners into the hands of the Electoral College. But as a result of a controversial Supreme Court ruling, the outcome of the Electoral College vote was not what anyone had anticipated. The results of this vote laid the groundwork for this third and final installment. "Tri-Partisan, The New Washington" continues this theme into the next four years as the two major political parties circle the wagons and form an uneasy truce to rid Washington of this unwanted intruder and render him ineffective until that time. However, a developing international criminal syndicate develops and dramatically changes the situation. With a scheme to purchase the political influence in the United States Congress needed to fulfill their goals, they will stop at nothing and are willing to do whatever they have to, to achieve them. Meanwhile the two major parties were confident that they have seen the end of this third party at the next election unaware of the events about to unfold that will change everything. Mixed into this is a hard-nosed police detective and his novice partner who, while investigating an apparent heart attack victim, stumble across new information that puts them on a collision course with the FBI, CIA, Homeland Security, and the Secret Service. Read on to see what happens as these events unfold and how they impacted the national election.show more
