Description

Years have passed since the conclusion of the prequel to this book, Nightwalker. Maurey, fully grown and a leader in his own right, finds himself pulled from his quest across the sea to protect a young princess whose life has been thrown into turmoil following her brother's murder. Princess Eleanor is determined to thwart her mother's misguided efforts to marry her off to her cousin. But even if she succeeds, her father remains a prisoner in Eswy castle, and a mysterious symbol shows up over and over again, pointing to some sort of plot against Eleanor and the kingdom. To achieve freedom, Eleanor and Maurey must work together and Eleanor must find her power.

"The prince has...there has been an accident, a terrible accident. Crown Prince Lovell is dead, Princess." I found myself sitting on the floor with my skirts in a heap around me... The sea, I thought. I hear the sea. Lovell had promised me that before I went up to Dunmorra to be married in the autumn, he would steal me away for a day of freedom. We would take a boat down to the sea and fish for sole over the sandbars. That was when I started to scream. Years have passed since the conclusion of Nightwalker, the prequel to this book. Maurey, a leader now in his own right, finds himself pulled from his quest across the sea to protect a young princess whose life has been thrown into turmoil following her brother's murder. Princess Eleanor is determined to thwart her mother's misguided efforts to marry her off to her cousin. But even if she succeeds, her father remains prisoner in Eswy castle, and a mysterious symbol points to a plot against Eleanor's person and the kingdom. To achieve freedom, Eleanor and Maurey must work together and Eleanor must find her power.

Review quote

"The story switches back and forth in each chapter, with Korby and Eleanor narrating their own adventures and experiences. This lends a sense of immediacy to the action, and makes for a gripping read...[This series] packs a lot of plot-driven punch. I am looking forward to the third installment."--Mad Tales blog

Maurey finds himself on a new adventure across the sea to a neighboring kingdom. He is sought to protect the Princess Eleanor, whose brother has been murdered. The Princess is promised to Maurey's brother, King Dugald, and he would trust only Maurey with her protection. But it seems there is more wickedness afoot and both Maurey and Eleanor must work together to save both kingdoms. The sequel to NIGHTWALKER may be even better than the first book! I was pleasantly surprised yet again! I do admit to being slightly confused at the beginning of this novel. I was unfamiliar with the characters that were telling the story, but it was soon cleared up and I think I may have enjoyed it more than I did with Maurey's point of view in the first novel. Johansen continues to impress me with her gift of storytelling. Its likeness is parallel with the first book in its fast-paced plot, compelling characters, and abundance of action. THE WARLOCKS OF TALVERDIN is quickly becoming one of my favorite series.show more
