Excerpt from Town of Newmarket Annual Report, 2006: For Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2006
The Town of Newmarket is a New Hampshire Municipal Corporation governed by a Town Council and other elected officials under a local charter form of government. Operations are directed by a Town Administrator appointed by the Council. The financial statements of the Town have been prepared in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (gaap) as applied to the governmental units. The Governmental Accounting Standards Board (gase) is the accepted standard-setting body for establishing governmental accounting and financial reporting principles. The more significant of the Town's accounting policies and its conformity with such principles are disclosed below. These disclosures are an integral part of the Town's financial statements.
