About Leonel Nunes

Leonel Nunes is a postdoctoral research fellow at Universidade da Beira Interior, in Portugal, where he also received his Ph.D. in Engineering/Industrial Management. He combines his academic experience researching biomass thermochemical conversion technologies and biomass derived fuels with many years of industrial experience in commissioning, start-up and operation of wood pellets and biomass torrefaction plants. He is also Production Manager at Yser Green Energy, which has one of the largest continuous large scale torrefaction operations in Europe, and works as a consultant in large scale biomass thermal power plants in Brazil. Joao Carlos de Oliveira Matias holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (1994), a Ph.D. degree in Production Engineering (2003) and Habilitation for Full Professor "Agregacao" (2014). He is Professor of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Beira Interior and member of the Technology Forecasting and Industrial Management (TeFIM) Research Group, as well as Co-Director of the Ph.D. Course in Industrial Engineering and Management and Director of the Master Course in Industrial Engineering and Management. His areas of research focus in Industrial Management in general and in Sustainable Energy Systems, Sustainable Design and Management Systems in particular. He is involved in several research projects and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Advances in Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering Research (AMSMER), member of Editorial Board of several scientific journals. He has also collaborated as reviewer with many journals and also international conferences, and is author or co-author of more than 150 articles published in several international journals and conference proceedings.
