About Maria Ayala

Maria de Jesus Ayala is a certified HHP and Reiki Practitioner living in San Diego. She is a lesbian Chicana, born and raised in the United States by Mexican immigrant parents. She is the oldest in her family and will turn 38 this year. She has been a published and award winning writer since the age of 16. Her paternal grandfather was a reporter for the Mexican Observer. As a Gemini she loves to express herself and is an avid information junkie. She enjoys baking, photography, watching movies, and enjoys all kinds of music. Her guilty pleasures are watching Mexican Telenovelas, Chicago Fire, Grimm, and reruns of Doogie Howser. She has previously been published in the Sappho's Corner Poetry Series, with such titles as: Tulips Touching, Wet Violets, Read Roses, and the upcoming Fallen Petals. She will be pursuing a business degree this summer, in the hopes of becoming a political consultant for the Scott Peters campaign for which she volunteered doing phone banking in late summer of 2014. Her 10 minute play, "The Trunk and the Stump," opened at The Old Globe Theater in San Diego's historic Balboa Park, on September 9, 2013.show more
