This Week in Black History : From Kings to Presidents
"This week in Black History" is a book for all people, young and old, Black, White or whatever race you may be. The purpose of this book is to awaken minds to the contributions of Africans and Blacks who have made contributions in American and the world. The book not only gives information about Blacks and their contributions in America and the world. It also encourages the reader to ask questions about the person or events, with the hope that they will research those questions, persons or events. The book is used with the "Shining Star" program. A program which speaks to the participants about persons from the past and present who have followed their dreams or achieved a goal they have set. The program speaks to the audience about finding mentors and influences that can help them to achieve their goals or dreams. It helps them to understand that following a dream or achieving a goal isn't a journey that they have to travel alone. The program encourages education, self-awareness, self-esteem and getting involved in self-help groups or finding a mentor or mentorship program. The program was so successful that it was recognized by President Barack and 1st Lady Michelle Obama in 2013.
