On September 12, 1916, a meeting was held in the rooms of the Brooklyn Engineers Club, Brooklyn, N. Y., by committees representing the following associations and societies: American Railway Engineering Association. Southern Pine Association American Wood-Preservers' Association American Society of Municipal Improvements American Society for Testing Materials American Society of Civil Engineers The object of this meeting was to discuss the creosote block pavement specifications and, if possible, to agree on a standard specification, each committee represented to submit such specification for adoption by its respective association or society. The deliberations of this joint committee resulted in a standard specification, and the Committee of the American Society of Municipal Improvements was the first committee to submit this specification to its society for consideration, and the society adopted it with some minor changes. The committee, in its report to the society, referred to the Brooklyn meeting as follows: "This was the most important meeting ever held affecting the creosote wood block interests." All matters pertaining to the wood block industry were fully discussed at this meeting, and the most vital parts of the specifications as herewith submitted, viz., the oil and treatment, were unanimously adopted by the general conference. It is the intention that all the other committees represented at the Brooklyn meeting shall, as soon as practical, submit specifications endorsed by the general conference, to their respective associations or societies.
