For a long time known as Queen Mathilda's Tapestry, the Bayeux Tapestry is an woolen embroidery on a linen canvas measuring approximately 70 metres in length. Up to the 18th century, it was kept in Bayeux Cathedral, and was very probably commissioned to an English workshop by Bishop Odo of Conteville, William Duke of Normandy's half brother, shortly after the Norman Conquest in 1066.

The tapestry justifies William's accession to the English throne based on the importance of the oath sworn by Harold on holy relics, at the time contained within Bayeux Cathedral. Today, the Tapestry remains a precious account of the Norman Conquest and of daily life in the 11th century. It is listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World International Register - and here it is, at last, brought to life! After nearly a thousand years, the ancestral art of embroidery finally meets with the modern art of animated film.
