Description

Yara Jones doesn t believe in sea monsters until she becomes one. When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious. Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. She could lose her soul in the process or she might open the gateway to a love that s deeper than the oceans. Editorial Reviews: "I adored this tale of sea monsters and forbidden love. Full of deception, romance, and intrigue, Tangled Tides is a story best savored but impossible to put down." - PJ Hoover, author of SOLSTICE "Tangled Tides includes a delicious romance that even the most dispassionate soul can t refuse. I absolutely adored Yara and her strength in all things, including love. And Treygan? I seriously want in on that merman action. Blue has never been so sexy. Hooper has created a believable underwater world that will leave readers wishing for a tail instead of legs." - Elana Johnson, author of POSSESSION "Tangled Tides is a delightful, smartly plotted tale of adventure, family secrets, and sizzling romance. About The Book: Yara Jones's life changes the minute a handsome boy tells her to trust her and to wish to be some place safe in the middle of a storm. She have never believed in sea monsters, until this day when she finds herself being one of them. She has a lot to learn: about the mysterious menfolk, the brutal selkies, the destructive gorgons, the beautiful, yet not so easy to trust sirens, the curse and what she really represents for the sea monsters. Yara finds herself trapped into this new world ?¡, having to deal with the guy who turned her into mer, Treygan, who will stop at nothing to safe all her people from this world. Yara soon finds out that not all the monsters have a happy ending, and that she could be one of that few monsters. "Screw the rules, damn the consequences, and just love. Love until it kills you, because there's nothing better worth dying for." Review: I cannot believe what Tangled Ties did to me. I started reading this book and couldn't be able to go to sleep until I finished the entire story. When I was able to decide that maybe I could finish the following day, I arrived at the worst part ever to stop reading a book. The moment when everything comes crashing down for the main character. So you can imagine that the other night I had a huge lack of sleep. Karen Amanda Hooper created a magical and wonderful sea-world, full of fantastic creatures with its own character and territories, without forgetting the mythical origin of this species and writing a fascinating story. This has became one of my favorite stories: a mix of magic and myth. What you can find in this story is not only the point of view of Yara, but the point of view of Treygan and Rownan, too. Although I have to confess that I didn't like Rownan much, the character, I mean, so I was always eager to read the other two points of view. It's really nice to see the different POVs because it gets you a chance to know the three characters involved in the curse and that you could consider main characters, not just forming an idea about them through one main character. We really liked to read Treygan's version of the story. It was heartbreaking reading how he felt like an outcast and that he deserved his own curse. We already have mentioned that hated Rownan and his double intentions, selfish ones. And Yara's story was a little bit confusing because she is turned into this sea-monster, in a creature she didn't believe they existed, and she has to struggle with the learning and finding some truths that might shatter her entire world. The plot was amazing, although, I have to confess, at first I felt a little bit lost. You're introduced to Yara's life and in a blink of an eye she's selkie and not human anymore. They talk about names and stuff and you start to hate Yara's behavior, always searching for Rownan, who obviously was a cheating ******* (ups, sorry!). I new it from the first page. All lies. And she still tried to see if they could work things out. A little bit frustrating. However, when you are deep into the story, you get to know more about this mysterious, new world and you start to feel really comfortable with it, liking all the developing and the secrets and the imminent catastrophe that you might predict after passing the "confusing part". At this point the magical aspects to the story remain, but you are introduced to a creative mythological world. And, for me, that was the best part. I loved it! As for the romance in the story. I was hoping to see Rownan and Yara's relationship come to an end, as soon as possible, so when Treygan and Yara start to feel something different than annoyance for one another I couldn't keep a "Yes!" and a "Aww". Yes, Book Addicts, they are the perfect couple! Yara becomes more mature and responsible, she starts to understand everything that is at stake and she wants to save everyone, EVERYONE. And Treygan is willing to sacrifice himself for his people and to give Yara a second chance in life. So cute, I know. We get a deep inside in the process of feeling annoyance for one another, to the madly, deeply, and star-crossed love that they are destined to share from the first page. I wouldn't want to leave a lot of spoilers here, so I might stop talking about this two. Just saying I'm, too, madly, deeply in love with Treygan! As for the ending was what we could called a happily heartbroken end. How is that even possible? Well, the happy part because, at some point, with a huge and unexpected twist of events that would make you be on the edge of your chair, the main characters get something like a happily every after. And the heartbreaking part is because when we finished the book we could not believe that was the end of Yara & Treygan's story. I was heartbroken because I wanted to know more! I felt like I missed something. I wanted to know the characters from the other side, like Rownan's wife, or see the party, but we were "left out"! However we also have our happily ever after, because then I went to goodreads and saw that, soon, there is going to be a second book! And I was all happy again. So, Book Addicts, for those addicts to magical creatures, worlds and mythological stories, this is definitely a must read story. Without losing the intensity of a cursed story and a strong supernatural romance that would make you fall in love with the story even more! That's why Karen Amanda Hooper's book, Tangled Ties, is in our top ranking. We are giving this book five gorjuss dolls and encourage all of you to come read about Yara's new world. I had NEVER read a mermaid story before, and I was a little apprehensive at first. I like a story where I can relate to the main character and really just get lost in everything that's going on. I was worried that with this story, that wouldn't be able to happen. I was so wrong! This book has taught me to keep a more open mind when it comes to books, because I could be missing some really great stories. Yara and Treygan start off in the common "I-Can't-Stand-You-But-I'm-Drawn-To-You", complex relationship snarl. Although, given how Yara can be a little irritating in the beginning this is perfectly understandable. This was one of those situations where I could totally see why both people would be put off by the other. Yara, who just found out her life would never be the same again was, understandably, a little panicked, and therefore, a little grating at times. And Treygan, who seems to not want to answer any of Yara's questions, has a little bit of an attitude at the beginning. But, once I got through about half of the book, I realized that this was just setting us up for the rest of the story. There's a reason that not all of our questions are answered. There's a reason the Selkies freak me out, and there's a reason why Treygan treats Yara the way he does. And once I got to the real "meat" of the story, I could appreciate why Ms. Hooper took us there the way she did. I appreciated the lore and mythology that was incorporated into the story. I really hope Ms. Hooper uses these, again, in her next Sea Monster Memoirs installment. I definitely suggest reading this book. And I also suggest picking up the In His Eyes Anthology, which is free right now on Amazon. Ms. Hooper added a story from Treygan's POV, and it totally made me appreciate his character all the more! I give this book 4.5/5 stars!show more

Yara was a caring, determined, loving girl with a temper. Her character was a likable, relatable and realistic one. She was an orphan and her only family was her Uncle Lloyd. She had a boyfriend - Rownan - who was ruggedly handsome but had a coat with secrets and lies covering his true identity. During a strong storm, a stranger came and took Yara away. That night was the night her night changed forever, the night she was turned into a mermaid. As she struggled to get over the shock of being half-woman and half-fish, she discovered that her reality was not as true as she believed it to be. She wanted answers and she will stop at nothing to get them. Treygan was the stranger who took Yara to sea. In the beginning, I had my doubts about him. But he proved to be trustworthy to Yara. He was a good guardian to Yara and loyal to his merfolk. He's charming and handsome but there's a distance between him and other people. There's something dark about Treygan. He had too heavy a burden on his shoulders. But he had a soft spot for Yara. Yara and Treygan's relationship was one based on trust and a buried connection. The attraction zinged between them underwater and on land. As the guardian of Yara, Treygan had to be near her almost all the time. The obligation to protect her turned into love at some point in Yara's adjustment to merlife. The threat to her life, danger and time spent together sped up the heightening of romance between them. They shared awkward moments as well as heart-melting ones. Their pair was a Romeo and Juliet mermaid-merman version that romance lovers will grow to like. Underwater, Yara found out a shocking revelation about herself. She was the key to open the Gate to Rathe, the realm of merfolk and selkies. 18 years ago, the gorgons closed the Gate, enraged at an unfulfilled promise. Since then some of the merfolk and selkies have been locked out of Rathe, unable to communicate and get back to their loved ones in their realm. To solve this problem, on the sunset of her birthday, she was supposed to be a part of the ultimate sacrifice. Tangled Tides is a refreshing paranormal novel that offers readers an exciting and thrilling adventure, a colorful and tragic history of underwater mythology, a cast of exotic and unforgettable characters and a sweet romance that will captivate readers.show more
