Description

Fans of Tales of Larkin: Hawthorn's Discovery have long awaited this prequel to the action-packed story about the inch-tall warriors of the deep woods. In Alan Harris' first book, the reader is introduced to the Larkin, tiny forest people who must daily face the dangers of spiders, ants, lizards (which they call dragons), wasps, serpents, birds, frogs, and weasels, as well as having to constantly be alert for attacks from their mortal enemies, the Renegades.

This second book in the series reveals the exciting history of these determined, resourceful people. Tales of Larkin: Larkin's Journal is the story of Larkin, son of Ramus, who will eventually become the patriarch of all of the Larkin tribes. From an early age Larkin finds his life filled with adventure, danger, and intrigue.

Packed with more unforgettable and inspiring characters as well as fast-paced action and mystery, Larkin's Journal is a page-turner that is fun for the whole family. Fans of the first book will finally have their questions answered: From where did the Larkin people come? How did these inch-tall people in the woods ever hear about the Maker and His Son, Jehesus? And lastly, will their faith carry them through the trials of treachery, exile, and a pilgrimage to a new world?

Review quote

As a twelve-year-old, I loved Dr. Harris' first book, Hawthorn's Discovery. Four years later, I excitedly devoured Larkin's Journal, soaking in the fascinating plot. The story of Larkin and his inch-tall friends filled my imagination with new pictures. Wild animal confrontations, battles with their enemies, and encounters with big-sized people keep the character's lives exciting. A fun romance between Larkin and the Princess spices up the story, and spiritual truths are sprinkled throughout the story as Larkin learns about the love of Jehesus. I highly recommend this book for its great writing, thrilling adventures, and important life lessons.

Out of 5 stars this was a 10 star book! Dr. Alan Harris is a master when it comes to storytelling! His style grabs you from the beginning and you do not want to put it down. The action and the drama both seem so real once you start that you get absorbed into the story. My children absolutely loved this book, but as adults my wife and I kept anticipating every new chapter as well. My family of 11 listened to the audio version in the van on a road trip, and no one wanted to stop for the bathroom - that is a first for our big family! I would certainly recommend reading it together if you can as there is something for everyone.

The story relates the adventures and history of the Makerians which are a race of people that live in the deep woods and are only at most an inch tall. This whole world is brought alive by Dr. Harris in a way that makes you feel like you know them. The way they use small things to get out of large danger, the way they get their food, their interactions with other characters and the underlying theme that there is a Maker in control of everything are amazing to experience as this story is told.

Our family not only tremendously loved this book, but we also enjoyed the first in this series written by Dr. Harris called Hawthorn's Discovery. Larkin's Journal stands alone and does not rely on the first one so you can read or listen to this book by itself, but I highly recommend going back and getting the first one when you can. We have been through that one multiple times and have more fun every time we do.
