Callie Stafford is an abused wife who tries to flee her husband and protect her children. Caught and punished, she still manages to turn the tables and elude the control of a psychopath. Rick Wellington was abused by his father until he was fourteen years old. Rescued and adopted, he achieves a solid foundation, yet he is a man with scars so deep he rarely talks about them. He believes that helping women who have been mistreated is his calling in life, so when he meets Callie, it's only natural for him to protect her. She's a skeptic; he's a committed Christian. She refuses to speak to her family; he lives with his adoptive parents. Yet they become best friends and each is the other's emotional support as they face memories of being assaulted by people who should have loved them. Callie's three children have their own difficulties adjusting to the many changes in their lives. Callie gives them stability and safe boundaries while Rick provides a positive male role model and gentle encouragement. Nothing can threaten their bond until Rick falls in love with his best friend, while Callie has barely noticed that he's male. And yet, Callie immediately asks him to marry her. When mysterious telephone calls and anonymous mail escalate into assault and kidnapping, the couple will learn to face every challenge by relying on one another, their family, and God.

About Ledell Walters

Ledell Walters is the pseudonym of a busy wife and mother who recently retired from her day job as a national board certified mathematics teacher. Born into a poor but literary family in South Mississippi, she taught herself to read by borrowing (stealing?) her older brother's first grade reader and following her many siblings around asking them what the words meant. She had written several novels, but she became frustrated with traditional print publishing and almost gave up on her dream of becoming an author. Since discovering independent publishing, she has begun dreaming again! Ledell still resides in South Mississippi. Her novels are set near her home, with most of the action occurring in two fictional areas between the Gulf Coast and Hattiesburg: the town of Magnolia and a rural community named Wisdom. Her novels may not be considered traditional Christian fiction, since she will often have at least one main character who has been sexually abused and the abuse will always be dealt with frankly but not explicitly. There is, however, a strong theme of redemption and the foundation of self-worth that can be found in God's love and in Christian relationships. Ledell's characters also have Christian values and self-discipline that determine many of their actions, they pray while running to help, and they attend church on Sundays. Although the first four novels will have a continuing story arc, each will be a stand-alone that leaves no cliffhangers and briefly retells anything you need to know if you haven't read the previous stories. These are planned to be released at approximately six month intervals following the April, 2013 release of her debut novel, "Take My Hand." Ledell's hobbies are reading (naturally), riding her recumbent bicycle, solving mathematical puzzles, baking, and teaching children at her church. Write to Ledell at ledellwalters@yahoo.com.
