Preparatory instruction began in 186 5 the College itself was opened the following year, and the Medical School in 1867. The language of the College is English, with a course in the vernacular for Arabic-speaking students. The College occupies a conspicuous site upon a bluff over looking the Mediterranean and a portion of Beirut with its harbor, and nearly forty miles of the summits and slopes of Mt. Lebanon.
