Description

Mia Kelly thinks she has it all figured out. She's an Ivy League graduate, a classically trained pianist, and the beloved daughter of a sensible mother and offbeat father. Yet Mia has been stalling since graduation, torn between putting her business degree to use and exploring music, her true love. When her father unexpectedly dies, she decides to pick up the threads of his life while she figures out her own. Uprooting herself from Ann Arbor to New York City, Mia takes over her father's cafe, a treasured neighbourhood institution that plays host to undiscovered musicians and artists. She's denied herself the thrilling and unpredictable life of a musician, but a chance encounter with Will, a sweet, gorgeous, and charming guitarist, offers her a glimpse of what could be. When Will becomes her friend and then her roommate, she does everything in her power to suppress her passions-for him, for music-but her father's legacy slowly opens her heart to the possibility of something more. A "heart-breaking and romantic" (Aestas Book Blog) debut, Sweet Thing explores the intensity and complexities of first love and self-discovery.show more

Alright. I'm doing this. I'm ready. Well, not really. I don't really know what I'm gonna write down. Psss! What's new? I'm rolling with it, anyway. Whatever comes out of my mou- no, not my mouth, my mind? No, my soul. That's what you're getting. So, here I am listening to Johnny Cash and trying to wrap my head around what I just read. Yes, I'm writing this right after I've finished it. Well not exactly right after. I was planning to write everything right away. I needed to, but life happens. You know? So two hours later, this is what I have to say... I loved this book. With all my heart and soul. It was absolutely beautiful. So for once, I am going to say why I loved it first and then I'll mention things that bothered me. Because how much I adored this overshadows any thing that I found myself disliking. Music is everything to me. Everything. Just like books. And this book combined both of them -in one 320 paged- masterpiece. Unbelievable, right? No. Not really. It's true. I've been looking at this screen for the past twenty minutes and I still am not sure what I want to say or how. I loved the story so much and listen to me when I say that I haven't felt so remarkably attached and connected to a character in a long time. Wilbur Ryan -and I'm stating this now- is one of my all time favorite characters. Ever in the history of Sophia's Most Favorite Literaly Characters List. He's up there with Dimitri Belikov. And if that doesn't mean a lot to you ask my family or friends or anyone that knows me -even remotely. That should tell you something.show more
