Jillian, Carol and Meg won't consider themselves victims - they're survivors. Survivors of a terrible crime that hit the headlines and changed their lives for ever. And now that Eddie Como, the College Hill Rapist, has been murdered, shot down outside a packed courthouse moments before his trial, all three women are openly ecstatic that he's dead. They are also the prime suspects in his murder. Detective Roan Griffin has no doubt that the murder of Como was a professional job, especially when the gunman is killed only blocks away from the shooting. But who ordered the deaths of Como and his killer? Could three ordinary women have been driven to do the unthinkable? Has someone in the Survivors Club become a killer? Then another woman is brutally attacked and the hunt is on for a ruthless killer. Someone wants to finish what was started. Someone wants to make sure that no one survives the Survivors Club...

Review Text

It's Detective Sergeant Roan Griffin's first day back at work after an 18-month leave. And is it just a coincidence that on that very morning, a sniper on the roof of the courthouse shoots and kills the man accused of being the 'College Hill Rapist' as he arrives from jail for the first day of his high-profile trial - and is then killed himself when his car blows up as he flees the scene? At first it just looks like an exciting new case for the gifted cop who was suspended from duty for attacking a fellow officer at the culmination of a particularly harrowing child-abuse investigation. The stress of the case, and the agony of seeing his beloved wife dying of cancer, mean that he is still emotionally frail, but he's ready to get his teeth into the job again. The College Hill Rapist left a trail of broken lives behind him - but his three surviving victims have formed the 'survivors' club' to support each other, and they are obvious suspects in the murder inquiry that becomes Griffin's entree back into the world of police work. The three are very different - a career woman, a rich housewife and a student - and as the investigation throws up some disturbing signs that they may have been focusing their anger on the wrong man the solidarity of the trio also begins to crumble. And in counterpoint, the coolly evil mind of a master criminal of particularly ingenious nastiness appears to be presiding over the bafflement of the police. Crimes past and present - including the traumas of Griffin's recent life - have to be reinvestigated, with large amounts of forensic expertise and some brilliant intuitive deductions, before the villain's victims can come to terms with the mistakes of the past, and take on the challenges of the present and the future. Clever and engrossing. (Kirkus UK)
