Description

Excerpt from Surrey Archaeological Collections Relating to the History and Antiquities of the County, Vol. 41 In 1518 Bishop Fox endowed his new foundation, Corpus Christi College, with the manor of Milton, together with certain lands and a water mill called Trump's Mill in Egham and Thorpe.1 The manor had been held during the middle ages by a family of the name of Middleton or Milton, and it is commonly referred to in the College documents as Milton alias Middleton, though the latter form seems to have gone out of use by the time of Fox's purchase. The manor had been held by the Middletons as of Chertsey, but subsequently it seems to have held as of Egham.2 The last manor Court was held in The college has now parted with most of its land, but I have been allowed the privilege of examining the College records.
