Statement of Deaths for the week ending the yth November 1903. % PROCEEDINGS OF THE DARBAR HELD FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECOGNIZING A THATHANABAING FOR UPPER BURMA. On the 13th November 1903 at a Mandat erected for the occasion near the Thudama Zayats, Mandalay, a darbar was held for the purpose of presenting the Taunggwin Sayadaw with a Sanad recognizing him as TJiathanobaing in Upper Burma. The darbar was attended by the Lieutenant-Genera Commanding, Burma, the Judicial Commissioner, Upper Burma, the Commissioner, Mandalay Division, the General Officer Commanding, Mandalay District, and by all Civil and Military Officers of Government at Mandalay who were not on duty elsewhere; also by the heads of monasteries and other monks, the-Ministers of the late Burmese Government and other leading Burmese gentlemen. The Thathanabaing was provided with a seat on the platform en the right of His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor. On the right of the Mandat were placed chairs for the European Officers, Honorary Magistrates, Municipal Commissioners and other gentlemen. On the left were seated the Sayadnivs and monks who were invited to witness the ceremony. Mats and carpets were laid for seating the Burmese audience. The Lieutenant-General Commanding, Burma arrived at 12-15 P, M-an was received by the Private Secretary to His Honour the Lieutenant-Governor and teonducted to his seat.
