Review Text

A uniquely clear, concise, and comprehensive history of World War II and the events which preceded it. Katharine Savage, an ex-writer for the Economist, and member of the Ministry of Information, writes with journalistic clarity gaining dramatic impetus from the compelling nature of her vast subject. The countries, men, battles, strategies, victories and defeats of the mammoth war are given fastidious coverage, and although the author's point of view in such instances as the Pearl Harbor attack are markedly pro-American to a point where certain relevant material is glossed over, the book, on the whole, answers the need for material on the war - a need which to date has been over-looked, and provides the teen-age reader with a solid basis of understanding in that history which is the immediate basis of the world in which they live.
