The watch word "GET IT STARTED RIGHT" should also be applied to this part of the work for it is most important that revenue billing should be legible and accurate, correct as to classification, rates, extentions and footings, the advance and prepaid charges properly shown and in case of through rates, the division of same for each road given in full. The name of the consignee, destination, routing and marks on goods should be given and the street address of consignee when shipments are destined to any large city. So far I have only mentioned two items, the loading and billing of freight and yet stop a moment and think of what this would do for a road which adopted the "GET IT STARTED RIGHT" system. Would it not eliminate in a great measure the numerous corrections, tracers, O. S. & D. reports and claims as well as complaints from our patrons. We all know that at present Local Offices are flooded with reports of this nature. How can this be accomplished? It will be necessary to employ first class competent and experienced men for the work, not alone the loading and checking of the freight on the house and the billing of same in the office, but the majority of the men should be those who could take up and handle any branch of the work in connection with the station. In other words, employ the best help possible for that is the cheapest in the end. When this has been done we are safe in saying that you could readily dispense with the service of a number of the clerks now employed in making out the enormous amount of corrections. O.
