Description

for SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied Setting a specially written text by Charles Bennett, this gentle lullaby reflects on the role of the animals and angels in the nativity, compelling us to follow their lead and create our own Christmas scene wherever we are. Chilcott's choral writing is characteristically warm and lush, with some divisi, and the singable melodies are shared between the parts. Song of the Crib features on the Naxos CD of Bob Chilcott's Christmas music, The Rose in the Middle of Winter.show more

Review quote

The contemporary poet, Charles Bennett, has supplied interesting texts for Gifts for the Child of Winter and Song of the Crib. Both are unaccompanied and employ divisi in all parts, so would challenge most parish church choirs, but will be relished by the experienced choral societies to which they are dedicated. * Gordon Appleton, RSCM, October 2014 *show more

About Bob Chilcott

Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life, first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. Later, he sang and composed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group, his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs, and his profound belief that music can unite people, have inspired him both to compose full-time and, through proactive workshopping, to promote choral music worldwide.show more
