Following the tragic deaths of his wife and baby, Thomas Benning tries to escape his grief. His only goal is to forget. He finds himself in Mobile, Alabama, a city he likes and decides to stay for a while. Little did he know how this decision would change his life. Contrary to his previous staid life, he meets an elderly gentleman who manages to convince him to help him achieve his dream. As a result of this decision, he becomes involved in international political activities which prove to be life-threatening. He also manages to simultaneously engage in relationships with an attorney who represents Indian Bands on the Pacific West Coast and an Israeli female operative.
