This gentle song is taken from the song cycle 'Songs for Seven Storeys', which Bob Chilcott wrote to celebrate the opening of the New Evelina Children's Hospital on London's South Bank. With a singable, folksy tune and an atmospheric piano part, this song has wide appeal. Orchestral material for 'Songs for Seven Storeys' is available on hire from the OUP Hire Library, or appropriate overseas agent.

About Bob Chilcott

Bob Chilcott has been involved with choral music all his life, first as a Chorister and then a Choral Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. Later, he sang and composed music for 12 years with the King's Singers. His experiences with that group, his passionate commitment to young and amateur choirs, and his profound belief that music can unite people, have inspired him both to compose full-time and, through proactive workshopping, to promote choral music

Review quote

We all need a bit of sentimentality now and then and this lovely piece by Bob Chilcott has it in spades. The words set the heart fluttering, the gentle tune brings a lump to the throat, and when you hear that it was commissioned by Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals for the new Evelina Children's Hospital, you'll be weeping away happily before you've got to the end of the first page . . . Not easy, but no doubt a popular choice. * Jonathan Wikeley, Music Teacher, July 08 *
