Etheric vision plainly reveals this nebulous counterpart suspended above the human body immediately following death, and by presenting a cloudy luminous appearance, has been incorrectly described as the " spirit." It is of course purely physical, and as transitory and subject to decay, as the grosser matter to which it was related. These etheric doubles or "shades" have frequently been seen, especially by the peasantry in whom intellect is undeveloped', and intermittent psychism existing. The "shades," usually appearing as a bluish-white misty form, have originated the idea of ghosts, and are usually seen in churchyards hovering close to their interred physical partner. They are naturally absolutely harmless, and being quickly destroyed by the elements, especially fire, makes cremation the most satisfactory method of thoroughly disintregating the whole of the physical grades of the human body. The recent endeavours made by certain medical authorities to weigh and photograph the " spirit" have been merely dealing with this etheric counterpart of the more tangible human organism. To ascertain its weight should by no means be impossible, for if we there is no reason why the etheric matter should not be capable of similar-recording. The so-called "spirit photograph," need have nothing spiritual, and consists entirely of imprinting upon the sensitive plate of the camera the appearance of the "shade" presented to etheric vision.
