Description

Detective Inspector Penny Sanderson retires from the police service. A widow, she has time on her hands, and decides to use it by going in search of the father she never knew, who disappeared in 1943, before she was born, on a mission to France for the Special Operations Executive. His mission had been to identify a suspected traitor, responsible for the arrest, torture and murder of many members of the local resistance groups. That file remained open even at the time Penny retired. She sends for the father's war record, which proves quite unhelpful, but with it a man - Geoff Pearson - arrives, who seems to know more than he is prepared to divulge. He persuades Penny to let them work together in her quest. Between England and France, they slowly garner what scanty evidence they can of Penny's father. In France, apparently unconnected, is a love story, and a saga of murder, betrayal, and Neo-Nazi politics. The story covers a time span of 55 years and tells of the righting of several terrible wrongs which date back to the last days of World War 2.show more
