Carmen grows up with her mother and her father at their private homestead, facing both the beauties and the harsh realities of farming. As Carmen matures into adolescence, she is faced with a loss that leaves her feeling alone and vulnerable. Carmen takes it upon herself to manage situations to the best of her ability, though she quickly learns that some situations cannot be changed or saved, no matter the quantity of time given to her or the effort attempted at doing the right thing. In time, Carmen leaves the private homestead, departing only to face a cruder and colder reality. She comes to eventually tell of her personal story, at the age of eighteen when she is free and the world, at last, feels hers to embrace.

About Clarrisa Stokes

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Clarrisa, freelance writer and poet, was born in 1992, in Perth, Western Australia. She has spent the majority of her life in the same unique town in which she was raised with her elder siblings. Fast to immerse herself in performance, she achieved a scholarship at the age of ten to The School of Drama, going on to complete a public performance at the Marloo Theatre in 2005. Bringing tales alive to the stage, Clarrisa almost immediately found heart in fiction writing. By 2009, her key passion and focus had grown to the writing of short stories and poems, a foremost influence being Edgar Allan Poe. The author now follows her love and admiration of the written form with zeal, specialising in short fiction works."
