Review Text

In the heyday of Tim and Ginger's heroic adventures at sea, it would have been unthinkable for Tim's parents to come along - but here they are, determined to keep Tim and Ginger out of trouble. And, says the jacket sanctimoniously, "Tim's mother is right." No sooner are Mother and Father called back on business than a "poisonous" meat pie carries off the Captain and half the crew to the hospital, leaving the ship in command of the dastardly, cowardly, incompetent second mate. Ginger, who we've been told is "not so clever," is a disaster in the kitchen (c'mon now, not mice in the stew) but Tim's efforts to steer the ship away from some deadly rocks are rewarded by a last-minute miracle. Captain McFee returns, Ginger's cooking improves, and the return voyage is happily concluded without parental guidance. As best we remember, the most dispensable of an illustrious series - down to the less than usually sly pictures. (Kirkus Reviews)show more
