Princess Jehosheba wants nothing more than to please the harsh and demanding Queen Athaliah, daughter of the notorious Queen Jezebel. Her work as a priestess in the temple of Baal seems to do the trick. But when a mysterious letter from the dead prophet Elijah predicts doom for the royal household, Jehosheba realizes that the dark arts she practices reach beyond the realm of earthly governments. To further Athaliah and Jezebel's strategies, she is forced to marry Yahweh's high priest and enters the unfamiliar world of Yahweh's temple. Can her new husband show her the truth and love she craves? And can Jehosheba overcome her fear and save the family--and the nation--she loves?

With deft skill, Mesu Andrews brings Old Testament passages to life, revealing a fascinating story of the power of unconditional love.

Intrigue, suspense, murder, friendship, romance and love....what's not to like about a book that appeals on so many levels. Mesu Andrews has done it again. She has created a wonderful story based on Biblical figures and brought them to life. I'm a fan of Christian fiction and a huge Mesu Andrews fan. She weaves an excellent tale and this is no exception. Mesu has the ability to take a Biblical story and bring it to life. Her books are well researched and she paints a vivid picture of what life would have been like in Judah and the Temple in Jerusalem. Her characters are well developed and believable. When you're reading her books you almost feel as if you were standing there next to Jehosheba (Sheba) when Athaliah slaps her! Her pictures of the Temple and Jehoiada make me feel like I lived during that time, not as if I were just a spectator. She skillfully weaves the strands of the story together to pull you in and make you want to me part of the friendship that develops between Sheba, Zibiah and Keilah. You can feel the weight of the breastplate as Nathaniel places it on Jehoiada's shoulders. You know the tension Ahaziah (Hazi) feels as he navigates the politics of the kingdom. I won't spoil the story by telling you too much, just get the book and make sure you have the time to finish it, you won't want to put it down!show more

I love Biblical fiction.......I love the feel of comfort and warmth you get as the author creates a novel of Biblical times making it come alive. The books just suck me in and keep me hooked. It's a wonderful feeling really, and Mesu Andrews is on of the most talented Biblical fiction authors. Truly. She is amazing and her stories are an escape for me into a world where I can breath easy. Jehosheba, or Sheba as many may know her, is an amazing character! I loved how she was created, and I felt as if I was reading her story straight from the Bible. Ms. Andrews truly created her story in such a life like manner! I love it. Watching as Sheba was married off and came to love her husband, watching as he taught her about the love of God, become so captivating to me, that I stayed awake until 3 in the morning turning the pages. It's just incredible how Ms. Andrews creates a passionate, emotionally moving story. I definitely recommend this book with the highest of 4.5 stars. While it's the fourth in Ms. Andrews' Treasures Of His Love series, it's most definitely easily read as a stand alone. If you've never before read a Biblical story by Ms. Andrews, then wait no more. In the Shadow of Jezebel is a great read. It kept me interest from the very beginning. Mesu Andrews writes a very descriptive possibility to the life of Princess Jehoseba and the reason she had to rescue Prince Joash from his Grandmother Athaliah's murderous assaults on her family. The princess knew that a prince from David's line had to be saved in order to continue God's promise. This brave princess honored God and this possible story of her life is a great read. You have a love story, a murder mystery, Bible based story and it is done with mastery. The descriptions of events and places and the story itself is one that will hold your attention.show more

Christian author Mesu Andrews displays her literary prowess in her fourth historical fiction work “In the Shadow of Jezebel.” This intriguing novel never slows but continues to draw the reader in through it’s entirety. Prepare to be transported back in time through vivid descriptions of Temple architecture, palace decor, city landscapes, and Old Testament feasts. The well researched details are truly insightful and enrich the storyline without becoming arduous. I was captivated by the characters - chilled by the calculating and evil persona of Jezebel and Athaliah, distressed by the brokenness of Jehosheba, and warmed by the passion and devotion of Jehoiada. These characters are relatable because they struggle with the common problems of fear, insecurity, anger, and budding faith. Readers are reminded of how God pursues our hearts, that He is always in control, and always faithful to fulfill His promises. Mesu has done a remarkable job of glorifying God through a fictional retelling of the story. Note: Available on the authors website is a bible study to accompany the book. Though not necessary, I felt it enriched the reading experience. By starting with scripture you are able to discern the parts of the story that are factual from those that are created. Also available is a discussion guide. I personally will be recommending this book to our Women’s Ministry book club.show more

In the Shadow of Jezebel is a riveting story full of multi-dimensional characters. I found it hard to put down (even though I knew how it was going to end!) I loved so many things about the main character Jehosheba's journey toward God and toward knowing and being known by trustworthy people after her abusive childhood. There were so many love-able characters (as well as some truly hate-able ones!) I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction, hair-raising political intrigue, and/or coming-of-age stories. It is solidly researched and makes for a scintillating read that will keep you thinking for days after you've finished it.show more
